CPA Group Calls For Broader Tax Deadline Relief Amid Pandemic

The U.S. Department of the Treasury should extend all tax deadlines and provide relief on all taxes, including estate taxes and generation-skipping taxes, in light of the novel coronavirus pandemic, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants said Wednesday.

The COVID-19 pandemic requires extensive tax relief on all tax deadlines and payments, the accountants group said in a statement. People or businesses that don't have April 15 filing dates, such as those with estate, payroll or excise taxes due, would benefit from a deadline extension as well, according to the release.

The IRS on Tuesday uploaded an FAQ page on the filing and payment extensions announced last week, specifying that most non-April 15 tax filers will not such extensions. The relief is appreciated, but not enough, the CPA group said.
