Some Tax Practitioner Help Lines At IRS Closed, Agency Says

By Theresa Schliep · 2020-03-27 14:40:06 -0400

Help lines and desks at the Internal Revenue Service for tax professionals have closed because of staffing shortages, the agency said Friday.

The Practitioner Priority Service line, e-Services Help Desk line and the e-Services help desks for filing information returns electronically and for the Affordable Care Act information returns system are closed indefinitely, the IRS said in an email newsletter to tax practitioners. The agency is also temporarily not accepting new requests from the Income Verification Express Service program, which lenders use to confirm loan borrower income, and is processing existing requests slowly, according to the email.

There are also delays authorizing CAF numbers, which are identification numbers used in the filing of third-party authorizations with the agency, according to the email.
