Ill. Extends Sales Tax Exemption Renewals Due To COVID-19

By Jaqueline McCool · 2020-03-31 13:27:02 -0400

Expiration dates for Illinois sales tax exemption numbers have been extended by 90 days in response to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Illinois Department of Revenue has announced.

In an order issued Monday, the department said that because of staffing issues related to the pandemic, the department has been unable to process most renewal applications for exemption numbers, known as E-numbers. The 90-day extension applies to E-number holders whose numbers are set to expire within 60 days of the governor's stay-at-home order, issued in response to the global outbreak of the virus, which causes the respiratory disease COVID-19.
