NH Extends Biz, Dividends Tax Deadlines Due To COVID-19

New Hampshire will extend the deadlines for its business taxes and interest and dividends tax for taxpayers that fell below certain tax thresholds for 2018, in response to the novel coronavirus, the state Department of Revenue Administration announced Monday.

The April 15 payment deadlines for the state's business profits tax and business enterprise tax will be extended to June 15 for businesses whose 2018 tax year liability was $50,000 or less, the department said in a notice. The April 15 payment deadline for the state's interest and dividends tax, imposed on residents, fiduciaries, limited liability companies and partnerships, will also be extended to June 15 for taxpayers whose 2018 tax year liability was $10,000 or less, the notice said.

The current law provides an automatic seven-month extension to Nov. 15 for filing returns for the business taxes and interest and dividends tax if payments are made by April 15, the notice said. But taxpayers who make payments by June 15 will still receive the Nov. 15 filing extension, according to the notice.

The April 15 deadline for estimated payments of the business taxes and interest and dividends tax is also extended to June 15 for taxpayers that meet the thresholds.

In a statement accompanying the notice, the department said the tax extensions would be available to 98% of taxpayers who file the business profits tax, business enterprise tax or interest and dividends tax returns.

With the announcement, New Hampshire joined many states and the federal government that have provided tax relief in response to COVID-19, the respiratory ailment caused by the coronavirus.
