A federal judge in Washington, D.C., ruled Friday that Ameris Bank is off the hook in a $1.5 million lawsuit brought by the owner of a condominium unit who alleged the bank falsely obtained approval for mortgage financing, noting the owner never responded to court proceedings.

The owner of a District of Columbia condominium unit is suing Ameris Bank Corp. and a real estate developer for more than $1.5 million, accusing them of falsely obtaining approval for mortgage financing from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for the entire condominium project.
