Pa. Lawmakers OK Extending Local Tax Deadlines Amid Virus

By Paul Williams · 2020-03-26 16:22:55 -0400

Certain local income tax deadlines in Pennsylvania could be extended under a bill the state General Assembly has approved in response to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

H.B. 1232 would authorize the state Department of Community and Economic Development to work with localities on extending from April 15 to July 15 the filing and payments deadlines for the local earned income tax, according to a fiscal note on the bill. The Senate and the House of Representatives unanimously passed the legislation Wednesday, and the measure will go to Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf.

The bill would also authorize the state Department of Revenue to extend the deadline for information returns related to Pennsylvania S corporations and partnerships, according to the fiscal note. The state has already extended its personal income tax return deadlines, and Philadelphia has extended deadlines for some business and real estate taxes, to offer tax relief amid the spread of COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the virus.
