Car buyers in multidistrict litigation accusing Takata Corp. of conspiring with automakers to conceal a deadly air bag defect have told a Florida federal court that last week's $200 million agreement between the company and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration fails to resolve their claims.

Takata and Honda attacked racketeering claims as part of their arguments Friday in Florida federal court urging dismissal of multidistrict litigation over defective air bags, and pointed along with other automakers to massive recall efforts to repair the millions of faulty components.

Honda Fights To Pare Economic Injury Claims In Takata MDL
Honda Motor Co. on Friday urged a Florida federal judge to toss several economic injury claims against the automaker in multidistrict litigation over defective air bags sold by Takata Corp., saying those consumers are looking for money when their inflators never failed or were replaced for free.

The family suing Takata Corp. and American Honda Motor Co. on behalf of a Malaysian woman and her unborn child who were killed by exploding airbag shrapnel told a Florida district judge Friday that moving the case to a Malaysian court will not be convenient or provide adequate remedy.

A Florida federal judge on Wednesday excluded FCA US LLC — formerly Chrysler Group LLC — from mediation managed by a Jones Day partner in multidistrict litigation over defective air bags sold by Takata Corp. in light of the fact that the firm represents "Old Chrysler" in its bankruptcy case.
