Nucor Corp. asked an Arizona federal court on Monday for a partial summary judgment ruling holding that Employers Insurance Co. of Wausau has no right to impose its choice of independent counsel to represent the company in a $175 million lawsuit over alleged groundwater contamination.

An Arizona judge on Monday denied a bid by Hartford Accident & Indemnity Co. and Travelers Casualty & Surety Co. to avoid covering Nucor Corp. in a $42 million suit brought by an Arizona subdivision over contaminated groundwater, saying evidence of a prior settlement is excluded from the suit.
