A Florida federal judge dismissed a large RICO suit against Geico, Liberty Mutual, State Farm and other major auto insurers on Monday, saying there is virtually nothing to support claims that the insurers force repair shops to accept paltry payment rates.

Repair shops suing Allstate, Liberty Mutual, Nationwide, Farmers and Progressive on Wednesday fought a bid to dismiss their proposed class claims that the insurers suppressed their pay for fixing cars, telling a Florida federal court they have properly pled a fundamental Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act claim.

A Florida federal judge was urged Friday to nix Old Republic Insurance Co.'s bid for sanctions against several auto repair shops and their counsel in a multidistrict litigation accusing insurers of conspiring to manipulate car repair costs to reduce their payments, saying the court previously ruled the case wasn't frivolous.
