Pennsylvania National Mutual Casualty Insurance Co. agreed Wednesday to drop a lawsuit in North Carolina federal court seeking to hold Stihl Inc. liable for fire damages at a policyholder's home after evidence showed a hedge-trimmer battery didn't cause the fire.

A North Carolina federal judge won't let manufacturer Stihl Inc. out of a suit by an insurance company alleging one of its hedge trimmers caught fire and damaged a policyholder's home, saying the allegations that the trimmer's battery caught fire during normal, expected use are enough to allege the tool was defective.
