Law360, New York (February 08, 2007, 12:00 AM ET) -- Despite numerous appeals over the last six years by the company, the European Court of Justice forced French food manufacturer Groupe Danone to pay a € 42.41 million fine on Thursday for taking part in a beer cartel.
Danone’s former beer unit, Brouwerijen Alken-Maes NV, was fined more than € 44 million in 2001 after the European Commission found that it, along with Belgian beer maker Interbrew NV and the Confederation of Belgian Brewers, were colluding in the Belgian beer market.
