Law360, New York (May 04, 2012, 5:38 PM ET) -- The Federal Circuit on Friday upheld a win for Gibbons PC in a patent malpractice suit over a type of extended-reach pliers, and the judges once again debated whether the court should have jurisdiction over patent-related state law claims.
The appeals court ruled that U.S. District Judge William J. Martini of New Jersey correctly granted Gibbons summary judgment because its former client had failed to prove that the firm's allegedly negligent prosecution of a patent for the pliers had caused his alleged loss.
