Coyotes File For Bankruptcy Without NHL Approval

Law360, New York (May 6, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Phoenix Coyotes have filed for Chapter 11 protection in order to implement a $212.5 million sale to the CEO of BlackBerry maker Research In Motion Ltd., who would then move the team to southern Ontario. But immediately after the filing, the National Hockey League removed the Coyotes' owner from his position of authority and said it would represent the club in bankruptcy court.
