Shutts & Bowen Hit With $2.7M Discrimination Suit

Law360, New York (May 12, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A former secretary for Shutts & Bowen LLP of Dominican and Puerto Rican descent has filed a $2.7 million discrimination suit against the Florida-based firm, alleging that she was subjected to racial taunts and sexual discrimination.

Maritza Ravelo filed the suit Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, alleging sex discrimination under Title VII. According to the complaint, she is seeking "in excess of” $2.7 million in compensatory damages and an unspecified amount in punitive damages.
