Schwarzenegger Terminates California Wal-Mart Bill

Law360, New York (September 14, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has vetoed a bill aimed at getting large employers to shoulder workers’ health care costs, marking the second time an attempt to get such a law on the books has been thwarted since July.

SB 1414, sponsored by Democratic Senator Carole Midgen, would have required companies with 10,000 or more employees in California to devote an amount equal to 8% of payroll costs for worker health insurance costs, or shell out an amount equal to the difference between the employer’s actual health...
