Virgin Chief Calls On US To Reject BA-American Pact

Law360, New York (May 15, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The founder of Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd. has reportedly called on the U.S. government to reject a proposed tie-up between American Airlines Corp. and British Airways PLC, arguing that the alliance would create a “monster monopoly” and strangle competition on the trans-Atlantic route.

Speaking at the National Press Club in Washington on Thursday, British entrepreneur Richard Branson likened the pact to a merger of Coke and Pepsi and said the U.S. Department of Transportation should reject it, according to Reuters.
