IBM Says Encoding-Method Patent Invalid

Law360, New York (May 19, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- IBM Corp. has fired back at a patent-holding firm in an infringement suit over a patent that covers an encoding method for database compression, filing counterclaims that the patent is invalid and not infringed by IBM's products.

IBM lodged the counterclaims against San Diego-based Database Structures Inc. on Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, seeking a declaratory judgment for noninfringement and invalidity of the patent.
