Firms Innovate To Make Alternative Billing Work

Law360, New York (May 27, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- With clients looking for flexibility from firms these days, outfits such as Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP have sought to answer the call by creating alternative-fee czars as firms struggle to balance client demands with their own business needs.

Sensing the need to devise more billing solutions for clients, Sheppard Mullin opted to establish four alternative czar positions late last year to serve as a billing gatekeeper of sorts, according to Guy Halgren, chairman of the firm.
