Texas Lawmakers Left Regulator In The Lurch: AIA

Law360, New York (June 3, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The American Insurance Association has blasted the Texas Legislature for failing to pass legislation that would have extended the operations of the Texas Department of Insurance before the latest legislative session adjourned on Monday.

Partisan politics prevented the TDI Sunset Bill from being passed before the state's Legislature adjourned for the next two years, the AIA said in a statement released Tuesday.

The Texas Sunset Act requires a “sunset commission” to review and reauthorize about 130 state agencies, including the TDI, once every 12 years....
