Challenge To Medicaid Law Has No Standing: Judge

Law360, New York (September 20, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a decision that could affect millions of Medicaid beneficiaries, a federal judge has ruled that groups that attacked a new law requiring Medicaid recipients to show proof of citizenship did not have legal standing to make the challenge.

Congress recently passed legislation stating that U.S. citizens or qualified legal immigrants needed to prove their citizenship in order to gain access to Medicaid. Right now, more than 50 million people receive health care services through the program.
