EchoStar To Pay $190M In Settlement Agreement With Gemstar-TV Guide

Law360, New York (March 2, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- Satellite television broadcaster EchoStar and Gemstar-TV Guide International settled their four-year litigation over patents for on-screen program guides, signing a deal under which Echostar will pay Gemstar $190 million to use its technology and brand.

The two companies agreed to launch and carry the TV Guide Channel and extend of their existing distribution agreement for carriage of the TVG Network.

Separately, EchoStar signed an agreement to acquire Gemstar-TV Guide's Superstar/Netlink Group LLC, UVTV distribution, and SpaceCom businesses and related assets for approximately $48 million in cash....
