'Catcher' Spinoff Author Fights Salinger Copyright Suit

Law360, New York (June 16, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- An anonymous author preparing to publish a novel based on 1951's “The Catcher in the Rye” is fighting author J.D. Salinger's attempts to halt the book's publication, saying Salinger has overstepped copyright law by calling for an outright ban on any allusion to his Holden Caulfield character.
