Federal Workers' Same-Sex Partners To Get Benefits

Law360, New York (June 17, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- President Barack Obama announced Wednesday the extension of certain benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees, amid a backlash from gay rights groups over the administration's recent defense of the Clinton-era Defense of Marriage Act.

Obama signed a memorandum Wednesday that extends several benefits to same-sex domestic partners of employees of the federal government.
