U Of Iowa Says Abbott's Humira Infringes Patents

Law360, New York (June 22, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The University of Iowa has hit Abbott Laboratories with a patent suit alleging that the drugmaker's blockbuster arthritis drug Humira infringes two of its patents.

The university and its affiliated research foundation filed the suit Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa.

The suit claims that the compositions used to manufacture Humira and other Abbott drugs infringe two patents issued to Mark Stinski, the university's Carver College of Medicine Distinguished Professor of Microbial Virology, who assigned them to the research foundation....
