Liberty Chairman To Pay $1.4M In Antitrust Deal

Law360, New York (June 23, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- Liberty Media Corp. chairman John Malone has agreed to pay a $1.4 million fine to resolve allegations that he breached antitrust notification regulations when he bought shares of Discovery Communications Inc., federal authorities said Tuesday.

According to a settled civil complaint filed by the U.S. Department of Justice in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, Malone violated premerger reporting and waiting requirements under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act when he acquired voting securities in Discovery in August 2005 and bought more in April last year....
