House Passes First-Ever GHG Reduction Bill

Law360, New York (June 26, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- After intense behind-the-scenes negotiations, the U.S. House of Representatives narrowly passed an historic climate bill Friday aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions through a cap-and-trade system.

The roughly 1,300-page bill, known as the American Clean Energy and Security Act, passed by a 219-212 vote, with only eight Republicans in support and 44 Democrats against. It will now move to the Senate, where companion legislation has yet to be introduced.
