EPA Rule Calls For Cleaner Cruise Ships, Oil Tankers

Law360, New York (July 1, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- U.S.-flagged cruise ships, oil tankers, bulk cargo and other large ships will have to improve the efficiency of their engines now that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has announced a proposed rule change aimed at limiting pollution emanating from the massive diesel engines powering large ships.

The proposed update of the Clean Air Act for large marine diesel engines is part of a coordinated effort with the Canadian government and other international bodies to reduce emissions from all marine engines, the EPA said.
