Dutch Brewer Can Sell Bavaria Beer: EU High Court

Law360, New York (July 2, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Europe's highest court has ruled that a Dutch brewer can continue to sell beer called Bavaria, rejecting a challenge from a group of brewers in the Bavaria region of Germany.

The European Court of Justice ruled Thursday that the German brewers can't use European Union rules protecting regional food names to block Bavaria NV, the second-largest Dutch brewer, from using the Bavaria name on its products.
