Downloader Contests 'Shocking' $1.92M Capitol Award

Law360, New York (July 7, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Calling a $1.92 million jury verdict against her for downloading 24 songs “shocking,” a Minnesota woman targeted by recording industry heavyweights including Capitol Records Inc. and Sony BMG Music Entertainment for using shareware has asked a federal judge to reduce the award or grant a new trial.

Jammie Thomas-Rasset's motion, filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, calls the June 18 verdict grossly excessive.
