Universal Corp. Whistleblowers Awarded $25 Million

Law360, New York (September 29, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Taking a firm stance on whistleblower rights, a California jury has awarded Rosemary Valladares and Ramon Delgadillo $25 million after Universal Corp. retaliated against them for reporting on its subsidiary’s fraudulent insurance claim.

The two workers for Madera Quality Nut, a subsidiary of Universal, first filed the suit in August 2004, accusing Universal of retaliating against employees for tipping off police and insurance investigators about suspected fraud.
