Ill. High Court Adopts New Attorney Ethics Rules

Law360, New York (July 8, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Illinois Supreme Court has adopted new attorney ethics standards that require heightened responsibilities for lawyers who learn of wrongful corporate conduct, among numerous other things.

The rules, which run more than 120 pages, have been in the works for seven years. They are generally based on model rules adopted by the American Bar Association in 2002 and 2003 and followed in some form in 42 other jurisdictions, but they retain concepts specific to Illinois, according to the state high court.
