Refinery In Limbo, Chevron Appeals Ruling

Law360, New York (July 9, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Chevron Corp. is appealing a California judge’s ruling that pulled the plug last week on the overhaul of a refinery in the San Francisco Bay Area, claiming the project's environmental impact report adequately addresses pollution from the expansion.

Rather than requesting a stay of the July 2 decision that abruptly halted construction at the Richmond, Calif., refinery, Chevron has resolved to file an immediate appeal in the hopes of getting the project soundly back on track, said Brent Tippen, a spokesman for Chevron.
