AbitibiBowater Seeks To Settle CAA Violation Claims

Law360, New York (July 16, 2009, 4:30 PM EDT) -- AbitibiBowater Inc. has asked for bankruptcy court approval of a settlement to resolve the federal government's allegations of Clean Air Act violations at the bankrupt newsprint producer's facilities in Calhoun, Tenn.

The debtor filed a motion Wednesday in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware seeking to ink a deal with the government, on behalf of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, requiring the company to pay $30,000 in civil penalties and undertake more stringent activities to keep emissions in check.
