Obama Picks Civil Rights Lawyer For EEOC Chair

Law360, New York (July 16, 2009, 6:36 PM EDT) -- President Barack Obama has tapped a lawyer from the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund to be the next head of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The White House announced Obama's intent to nominate attorney Jacqueline A. Berrien as chair of the EEOC in a statement Thursday.

“Jacqueline Berrien has spent her entire career fighting to give voice to underrepresented communities and protect our most basic rights,” Obama said.
