FDA To List Mercury Dental Fillings As Moderate Risk

Law360, New York (July 29, 2009, 5:02 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has determined that the use of dental fillings that contain mercury is safe, but that the products should be classified as presenting a moderate risk.

After a multiyear debate, the FDA issued its final regulation Tuesday to classify dental amalgam and its component parts — elemental mercury and a powder alloy — used in dental fillings.
