Unions Fight Tribune's $70M Employee Bonus Plan

Law360, New York (August 5, 2009, 3:12 PM EDT) -- Three unions are objecting to bankrupt Tribune Co.'s plan to pay up to $69.9 million in bonuses to top executives and hundreds of other employees, saying it represents an improper attempt to pay insiders retention bonuses at a time of declining revenue.

The Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild, which represents 225 employees at the Baltimore Sun, filed the objection Tuesday in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. Two Teamsters unions and the Newspaper Guild of New York joined in the opposition.
