Oracle-Sun Merger Faces EU Hurdle

Law360, New York (August 5, 2009, 5:26 PM EDT) -- European regulators have reportedly launched an investigation into Oracle Corp.’s planned acquisition of Sun Microsystems Inc. and will give the $7.4 billion deal the green light by Sept. 3 if antitrust concerns are allayed.

While the U.S. Department of Justice is several months into its own probe of the merger, the added scrutiny from the European Commission poses another regulatory hurdle, threatening to prolong if not completely jeopardize a deal Oracle hoped to complete this summer.
