BYU Drops Spectrometry Patent Suit Against Hitachi

Law360, New York (August 7, 2009, 4:49 PM EDT) -- Brigham Young University has dropped a lawsuit accusing Hitachi High Technologies America Inc. of willfully infringing a patent related to mass spectrometry.

Judge Tena Campbell of the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah signed off Thursday on BYU's request to dismiss the suit without prejudice.

BYU attorney Frank Compagni of Morriss O'Bryant & Compagni PC said his clients "decided at this time they would just walk away" from the dispute.

An attorney for Hitachi was not immediately available for comment Friday.
