Verizon's Bid To Dismiss VoIP Patent Suit Denied

Law360, New York (August 11, 2009, 12:53 PM EDT) -- A district judge has denied a motion by Verizon Communications Inc. to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction a suit claiming Verizon infringed on a patent for Voice Over Internet Protocol technology.

U.S. District Judge Leonard Davis denied Verizon's motion on Monday without prejudice, writing that evidence exists to suggest Verizon does business in Texas, thereby including it under the jurisdiction of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, where the initial suit was filed.
