Unitrin Sued Over Hurricane Season Policy-Nixing

Law360, New York (August 11, 2009, 4:10 PM EDT) -- Two Texas residents have hit insurance giant Unitrin Inc. and several subsidiaries with a putative class action alleging they illegally canceled homeowners' insurance policies just before hurricane season.

In the complaint, filed Aug. 5 in the District Court of Jefferson County, Texas, the residents accuse the insurers of deceptive trade practices, insurance code violations, breach of contract, unjust enrichment and conspiracy.

Attorneys for the plaintiffs and a representative for Unitrin could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.
