$22M Bad Faith Judgment Against United Fire Affirmed

Law360, New York (August 12, 2009, 9:09 PM ET) -- A federal appeals court has affirmed a jury verdict in favor of a New Orleans grocery chain that alleged its insurer, United Fire and Casualty Insurance Co., acted in bad faith by failing to pay claims for Hurricane Katrina damages, upholding a total award of nearly $22 million.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit issued its ruling on Tuesday in the case brought by the owners of Robert Fresh Market, which has several locations in Louisiana.
