Obama Announces Chair For Mine Safety Commission

Law360, New York (August 17, 2009, 7:18 PM EDT) -- President Barack Obama has appointed a more labor-oriented commissioner to head the Federal Mine Safety and Health Review, replacing a Bush appointee as chairwoman.

The president will designate Mary Lucille Jordan, a current commissioner of and long-time advisor to the United Mine Workers of America, to chair the commission in charge of the adjudicative agency, the White House said Aug. 14.

Jordan previously chaired the FMSHR, which tries and hears appeals of disputes under the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act, as a Clinton administration appointee....
