M&A Lawyers Face Lasting Changes

Law360, New York (September 10, 2009, 3:06 PM EDT) -- Between crumbling asset values and seized-up credit markets, 2009 has so far been a desolate year for mergers and acquisition activity compared with the boom times of 2007 and even the first half of 2008.

But that could be changing, however slightly. With several forecasters expecting the U.S. to emerge from the crisis later this year, lawyers and investment bankers are reporting increased conversations about potential deals. The question becomes, then, where those deals will come from and what they will look like.
