Viagra MDL Plaintiffs Lose Star Expert Witness

Law360, New York (August 20, 2009, 2:23 PM EDT) -- Pfizer Inc. has persuaded the federal judge overseeing the multidistrict litigation over its blockbuster erectile dysfunction drug Viagra to exclude the testimony of the plaintiffs' key expert witness, attacking the reliability of the witness' study linking the impotence drug to eye damage.

Judge Paul Magnuson of the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota ruled Wednesday that the February 2006 study by the plaintiffs' sole remaining general causation expert, Dr. Gerald McGwin, contained discrepancies that raised “serious concerns” about its reliability.
