FDA Seeks Comment On Possible Acrylamide Guidance

Law360, New York (August 26, 2009, 3:28 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is asking food manufacturers and other interested parties for data and comments on strategies to reduce levels of the suspected carcinogen acrylamide in food as the agency considers issuing guidance on the chemical.

In a notice published in Wednesday's Federal Register, the FDA said the comments would help it decide whether to issue guidelines for food makers on reducing acrylamide, a product of high-temperature cooking of certain foods that has been shown to cause cancer in rodents.
