NYC Beats Out Exxon In Phase 2 Of MTBE Trial

Law360, New York (August 26, 2009, 6:51 PM ET) -- A federal jury has sided with New York City in the second phase of a $250 million trial over groundwater allegedly contaminated by Exxon Mobil Corp., paving the way for the case to continue to a high-stakes showdown in phase three.

In a verdict delivered Wednesday afternoon, jurors in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York found that gasoline additive methyl tertiary butyl ether would likely be present in the water supply beneath five city wells by 2024.
