Zimmer, Smith Nephew Settle Bone Screw Patent Spat

Law360, New York (August 28, 2009, 6:20 PM EDT) -- Medical device companies Zimmer Holdings Inc. and Smith & Nephew Inc. have settled their dispute over a patent for a product that aids in the treatment of bone fractures.

The consent order filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana did not offer details of the settlement.

Zimmer claimed in its original suit from January 2009 that U.K.-based Smith & Nephew infringed its patent through the sale of its Trigen bone screws, which are used by surgeons and other medical professionals...
