RJ Reynolds, Others Sue US Over Free Speech

Law360, New York (August 31, 2009, 6:33 PM EDT) -- A group of tobacco companies that includes R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. has sued the U.S. government, claiming the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act restricts the companies' First Amendment rights to communicate with consumers about their products.

Tobacco makers Commonwealth Brands Inc., Conwood Co. LLC, Lorillard Tobacco Co., National Tobacco Co. LP and R.J. Reynolds are listed as plaintiffs on the complaint, lodged Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky.
