Bill Seeks To Unclog US Courts With New Judges

Law360, New York (September 8, 2009, 6:36 PM EDT) -- Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., has unveiled legislation that would take a stab at unclogging the nation's court system and easing judges' staggering caseloads by authorizing a slew of additional permanent and temporary judgeships.

The Federal Judgeship Act of 2009, introduced Tuesday, would establish a total of 63 new permanent and temporary judgeships across the U.S., including 12 circuit judgeships, according to Leahy.
