TVA To Give $40M To County After Coal Ash Spill

Law360, New York (September 15, 2009, 5:16 PM EDT) -- The Tennessee Valley Authority has established a $40 million fund for economic development of the locality where a billion-gallon coal ash spill from one of its plants occurred in December 2008, prompting the Environmental Protection Agency to conduct a wide-scale review of coal ash sites across the U.S.

The EPA announced on Sept. 8 that it had no immediate cause for concern after making public the sweeping array of survey responses from electric utilities regarding hundreds of potentially hazardous coal ash impoundments.
